Interview with Joakim Jansson, CEO

Hi Joakim, what is Filehill? It is a marketplace where you buy and sell digital content files. Everything that is digital can be sold at Filehill They are in all fields; music, writing and photography, but also knitting patterns, datascripts and excel sheets for your household finances.

Ok, but how does it work in practice?

First a seller uploads the file he wants to sell, let us say that this is a song that he wrote and recorded. He describes the song, upload a sample listening and the price. When this is done the file is up for sale and can also be sold directly from the sellers website if he has one. Ok, the file is now up for sale and a buyer is surfing on the seller's website, find the song, like it and decide to buy it. He chooses to purchase it by text message payment and right after that he can download the song directly. The money is put in the seller's account right away.

I understand, why did Filehill enter this market and why now?

In Sweden each year we spend, at work and in our sparetime, many millions of hours to create different types of materials that are or could be digital. A lot of this is very high quality and often there is material in narrow niches where no company would see it economically possible to go into.

Despite the quality and diversity, unfortunately it's only a fraction of these digital products that are sold further and we thought it was too bad, therefore we created Filehill.

The reason why we feel that the market is now on its way, are many different factors; the Swedish people do a lot of online shopping, either they buy a trip or sell a bike. We are also increasingly dealing with so-called micro payments (payments online with small amounts). In addition, of course bandwidth and digital storage has become cheaper and cheaper.

How large will this market become?

Our obvious goal is that all material that is or could be digital also should be traded in a easy way and gladly through Filehill. We believe that already within a few years there will be as normal to buy and sell digital content as it is today to buy and sell physical goods, such as couches and clothing on the internet.

Why should I then sell digital files??

Because chances are that you like many others have a small goldmine of files in your computer that you through the years have created. If you believe that your files are entertaining or useful, the chances are that someone else also thinks so. So take a few minutes and go through your computer and you will see that you will find a lot you can sell. The good thing is that once you have uploaded your files you can sell the same item over and over again without doing nothing.

And why should I buy digital files?

One reason is that there are a lot of fantastic creative music, movies or books out there that are never published in the traditional way with a company or a publishing house in the back. Another reason is that it saves you a lot of time . Instead of you creating a word document, an Excel file, a report or a drum loop,you can purchase it from someone else at a reasonable price.
