About Filehill
What is Filehill?
Filehill is a trading place that allows people to buy and sell anything digital. It's like a marketplace, but online! Payment is easily made using your phone or a debit card.
Is Filehill the seller?
No, everything on Filehill is sold by individual users, who upload their own files. Filehill only provides the sellers with an opportunity to reach their customers. The sellers are responsible for their own material and for any support it might require.
Buy files
How do I contact a seller if I have questions regarding a file?
If you're wondering about a file you already bought, use the comment function found on the specific file page. Start by writing a comment as your input might be of use to other buyers. You can also write comments on the seller's information page.
How do I buy files?
Buying is easy! Find files by browsing through our categories, or search for them using the search tool. Then click a file and check it out. If you wish to buy it, hit the Buy-button. Depending on the sellers chosen payment options, you can pay with your debit card or by text message. Please note that prices may vary depending on the method of payment. Should you choose to pay by text message, you will receive an instruction to send a code by text message. The message you send will be the payment, made through your phonebill. Once your text message is sent, the webpage will update automatically, and a download button appears. Hit "download" and then select "save as".
If you are logged into your Filehill account and have sufficient balance, the download button will appear instantly, no need for a text message. The cost is then withdrawn from your Filehill account.
Do I have to be a member to make a purchase?
No, you don't. Just click the "buy" button and follow the instructions.
Can I use my debit card?
Yes. Filehill uses PayPal to safely handle debit card transactions. PayPal is one of the largest, most established e-commerce operators in the world.
Read more about PayPal.
Can I rate a file?
Yes, as a buyer you can, through your My Purchases list. Rating is important, as it gives other sellers and buyers a way to determine the quality of the file. We have chosen a simple system, thumbs up or down. Many thumbs up indicate a good file. When you rate a file, you can add comments and reviews, to further inform any would-be buyers.
I bought a file, where's my download?
When your payment has gone through, the "buy" button transforms into a download button on the file page. When you hit the download button, you are prompted to save or open the file. Now you can save the file in an appropriate folder on your computer.
Due to lag at PayPal, sometimes your payment takes a while to verify.
If you have to wait more than 5 minutes for the download button to appear, we will send you an email titled "Login Filehill" instead. Then do the following:
1. Follow the link in the email
2. Pick a password and you will be logged in
3. Go to "My page" and select "My Purchases"
4. Hit "Download"
Files from any future purchases will appear in this account. If you wish, you can also use the account to sell your own digital material.
I've sent a text message with a payment code, where's the download button?
Some operators take a while to register messages. Just stay on the page, and the download button will appear eventually. Do not leave the page, and do not update. If you have to wait for more than five minutes, please contact our staff.
My account
Why did I receive text message / an email with logon information?
As soon as you've made a purchase with us, an account is automatically created for you. This is done so that you will be able to download your files again. The account can also be used to buy other files on Filehill, or sell your own files.
Hint! Under My profile - list your email, so we can tell you your password if you forget it.
How do I get the file I bought?
Once you have bought a file, you can download it anytime under
My Purchases provided that you are logged in. You can also access it directly through the individual file page, where there will be a download button.
Will my purchases be visible anywhere?
If you're logged in as a user, you can see all your purchases under My Purchases, but this information is not disclosed externally. If you have not registered with Filehill, your confirmation will instead be the text message receipt that you receive when payment has been made in full. The seller will be able to see your user name under Transactions once you've made a purchase.
Can I browse users?
Yes, you can either search for specific users, file types or description keywords.
Will you disclose my phone number to anyone?
No, Filehill does not disclose any user information to third parties unless there is suspicion about criminal activity. However, we reserve the right to share information with the authorities if there is suspicion of tax evasion etc.

Sell files
How do I sell a file?
First, you have to sign up for an account. It's fast and really simple. Then you click Sell in the main menu and complete the form. Remember to write a full description of your file to give an accurate and selling description. This also makes it easier to find your file through various search engines. A good picture is another thing that makes your file more attractive.
My file is actually several files, how do I handle that?
It is best to put them all in one package, using a so-called Zip program. One program commonly used to compact files this way is Winzip, which you can download here.
What happens when I sell a file?
Any money you make selling files is added to your Filehill account and displayed under Transactions. The money you make can either be used to buy other files from Filehill, or transferred to your bank account. Withdrawals can be made under Deposits/Withdrawals. Your account balance is displayed next to your user name at the top right once you're logged in.
How will I know if I sold any of my files?
You will be able to see that on My page when you're logged in. Here's where you can see all the files you bought and sold. An added option is to have monthly reports sent to you by email, on the first of every month. You can activate and deactivate the email reports under My profile.
Can I link my file to my own homepage/blog?
Yes, this is an excellent way to increase your sales! Every file that is sold on Filehill gets its own file address. This will be displayed once you've uploaded your file. If you wish to retrieve it again, just click on your file in the sales list, and then copy the address which is displayed in the address field. This is the static address to your particular file.
Filehill now offers a simple way to put up your own web shop, linking to the files that you have uploaded for sale on Filehill. To retrieve the code for your particular file, go to its file ad, and copy the code in the yellow box. This code can now be pasted onto your homepage or blog.
Where can I see the files I put up for sale?
Once you're logged in, you can see and edit your uploaded files under My files.
Can I edit a file that's been uploaded already?
Yes, under My files you can edit an ad that is already posted. Among other things you can change the picture, alter the description or replace the file altogether.
For how long will my file be up for sale?
There is no time limit for how long a file can be on Filehill. It will remain here for as long as you wish.
I've uploaded a file for sale, but I'm not selling anything?
Try to describe your file extensively. A lot of traffic is drawn to Filehill from different search engines, and the longer the description, the greater the chance that a potential buyer finds your file through the search terms indexed in its description. A nice picture is another way to attract buyers.
Also, try to market your file through forums, or on your own homepage or blog. The more entries to your file, the greater the chance that a potential buyer finds it.
How come I can't see the ad picture for my file?
The ad picture has to be in .jpg, .gif or .png format.
Can I add HTML to the file description?
Yes, you can add HTML to your file description, with some limitations. You can not embed DIV-tags or the like. Feel free to try what you want to do! You can always see and access your files from the page My files when you're logged into your account.
How much will I make from my sale?
When you upload a file for sale, you will immediately see how much you make from each sale, depending on the payment method and price you have chosen.
Filehill charges a 20% fee from the sales price, not including the charges for your payment method. Text message payments costs more, since the operators charge a lot for this type of service (currently about 22-26%). PayPal (using a debit card) charges approximately 4-11%.
Fees - How much does it cost to sell a file at Filehill?
Simply uploading a file to Filehill is free! We will charge our percentage once someone buys the file. You pay for two things - our percentage and the cost for the payment method. The primary payment method is through debet cards via PayPal, but the buyer can pay by text message if you wish. This will, however, cost you more, since the operator's fee will be deducted from your earnings.

Copyright
What is ok to sell? What isn't?
You can sell files that you have the legal rights to sell. It is often illegal to sell stuff that you have downloaded somewhere else. However, this depends on what kind of license that stuff came with - some licenses, particularly certain Creative Commons licenses allow reselling of modified files. The basic rule is that if you are not sure whether you have the rights to a file, you should make sure before you upload it to Filehill. You will be personally responsible for anything you upload for sale, and might risk legal indictment if you sell anything to which you do not own the rights.
NOTE! These instructions do not equal legal advice. If you are not sure whether an object can be sold without violating someone else's rights, you should always consult someone who can help you to settle the question. One option is to contact the rights holder directly, or consult a lawyer before the file is uploaded for sale.
You may not upload multiple copies of the same file, or resell stuff that you bought on Filehill.
Read more about copyright (external link).
Somebody is selling a file to which I have the rights - what do I do?
First, report the suspected infringement to the Filehill staff by clicking ''Report this file as inappropriate'' on the file ad page. If your claim is reasonable, we will withhold the file while we look into the matter. Then you should contact the seller and attempt to resolve the matter. Sellers are often unaware of their copyright violation, and it is likely that the situation can be averted with a minimum of fuss for both of you. Obviously illegal stuff will be removed as soon as it is spotted.
We encourage the rights holder to use Filehill as yet another retail option, and if someone figured out before you that your material is attractive and selling, it might be a good idea to resolve the situation by sharing the profit with this person from now on. In exchange, that person could act as an agent for your material.
